Innovation

74 % of the budget of Gaz de France's Research and Development Division goes into the Group's sustainable development policy. In 2006, 27% of Gaz de France's R&D expenditure was given over to finding answers to the energy-related challenges of today and tomorrow.

The “2005-2007 research contract” provides for:

  • a reduction in the environmental impact of the gas industry,
  • rational energy use (natural gas fuel, cogeneration),
  • the creation of long-term energy solutions (hydrogen, biogas, renewable energies).

In 2006, Gaz de France was involved in the following international research projects among others:

  • Energy Efficiency in Buildings: designing buildings with a minimal environmental footprint
Gaz de France is contributing to this project run by WBCSD (the World Business Council for Sustainable Development),
  • Tacoma: high-technology combustion
As part of a partnership with IFP, Total and CNRS [France's national science and research institute], Gaz de France is working on solutions to enable CO2 trapping at major combustion facilities.
