Energy efficiency

CO2 emissions are caused mostly by energy use rather than energy production. So Gaz de France is putting energy saving at the very heart of its strategy.

So reducing greenhouse gas emissions also means changing patterns of energy consumption. To achieve this, Gaz de France:

In order to foster changes in people's energy consumption patterns, Gaz de France:

  • is developing offerings and technologies which incorporate systems designed to control consumption and limit emissions of greenhouse gases,
  • offers its customers financial solutions as an incentive to acquire such efficient products.

Gaz de France, promoter of greater energy efficiency

  • supplies responsible offerings combined with effective tools for optimising consumption (equipment, advice),
  • is actively involved in the energy saving certificates scheme, which was launched in France on 1 July 2006. In 2005, Gaz de France and ADEME carried out a trial run of this scheme in the Rhône-Alpes and Nord-Pas-de-Calais regions. 26 GWh were saved by replacing inefficient heating systems with more efficient solutions. In 2006, 40,000 energy saving actions took place involving domestic customers in France,
  • conducts a responsible lobbying strategy, for example by promoting the introduction of condensing boilers.

What are tradeable energy efficiency certificates?
In the United Kingdom, Italy and France, the law requires power companies to encourage their customers to save energy in areas such as heating and insulation. In return for hitting their targets, the energy suppliers obtain tradeable energy efficiency certificates. If they fail to meet their targets, a penalty is applied. Gaz de France predicts that between 2006 and 2009 it will have helped save 13,457 GWh, some 25% of France's national target.

Partnerships

The Group has signed partnerships with WWF-France and ADEME to promote energy efficiency as widely as possible.
