Doha, January 14, 2008 – H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Deputy Premier, Minister of Energy and Industry, Chairman of Qatar Petroleum International, and Jean-François Cirelli, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Gaz de France, signed a partnership agreement today in Doha.

This memorandum of understanding plans the development of cooperation between the two groups at an international level, in particular in the areas of exploration-production, liquefied natural gas (LNG), gas storage and downstream activities.

The signing of this agreement illustrates Gaz de France's wish to enhance its presence in Qatar and develop its cooperation with the world's top exporter of LNG. The Group, which opened a representative office in Doha early January, has also been pre‑selected by Qatar Petroleum to participate shortly in an invitation to tender for the allocation of new offshore licences in Qatar.

Today's signing represents another step for QPI in developing international partnerships with major energy groups. I would like to welcome Gaz de France's increased presence here with the opening of its office and greater participation in Qatar's energy sector”, H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah said.

I am delighted we have signed this agreement which represents a major step forward in the development of our relations with Qatar and the establishment of a long-term partnership with Qatar Petroleum. As a major player in the energy sector in Europe, active throughout the liquefied natural gas chain, Gaz de France would like to become a significant partner of Qatar Petroleum International and work on the development of joint long-term projects”, said Jean-François Cirelli, Chairman and CEO of Gaz de France.
